What Is Port (Networking)?
A numbered "channel" through which a device sends or receives a specific type of data.
Every IP address has thousands of ports, each of which can be used by a different application or service (e.g. port 443 for HTTPS). A firewall can allow or block traffic depending on the port, controlling which services are accessible.
